The Cottingham Branch of Hull City AFC Official Supporters’ Club is going from strength to strength. At its launch in the early summer there were about 30 members but now, after only three or four meetings, membership is touching 100.
The energy of the Committee ensures that meetings offer the opportunity for lively banter with friendly, like-minded Tigers’ supporters. Members have been treated to visits by representatives of the club such as City’s Welsh international goalkeeper Boaz Myhill. He fielded questions from local fans towards the end of last season and was asked if he thought City would gain automatic promotion to the Premier League. As part of his reply he suggested that the alternative of promotion via a play-off final win at Wembley would make for a good day out. We all know how prophetic that was.
More recently the Old Brewery Bar to the rear of the King Billy public house in Hallgate, where the branch hold meetings, was packed with supporters eager to participate in a ‘question and answer’ session with Hull City Chairman Paul Duffen. He warmed himself to the audience through his openness, honesty and humorous wit. His vision, professionalism and business-sense also shone through as he described how the club will move forward, and he was positively confident that the club will continue to progress.
Paul unveiled the Branch plaque, kindly donated by sponsor Grassrootz Lawn Treatment, which sits proudly to the left of the entrance to the King Billy. He also officially unveiled a splendid honours board inside the Old Brewery Bar which has been provided by Mitchell James Contractors Ltd.
The Branch have been grateful for sponsorship from other businesses including Woksoever Restaurant, Roses Kitchens of Beverley and Outdoor Living Ltd. The Committee are eager to acquire further sponsorship as they seek to establish themselves at the heart of the community. They are keen to work for the benefit of the Cottingham community.
