The annual event of the World Barge Pulling Championships is due to take place on Beverley Beck at 11.0am on Sunday the 29th of September 2019.

Organised by the Beverley Barge Preservation Society in association with Teamac, we hope to build on the success of previous years. Teams of four men, women, or mixed, will pull the barge 'Syntan' (weighing in at 64 tons) a distance of 200 metres - in the fastest possible time.

Sounds hard, but once she's moving.... All competitors are rewarded with a specially designed medallion. Members of the winning team each receive a championship cup and share a £200 cash prize.

A perpetual trophy will be engraved with the name of the winning team and held aboard 'Syntan' until the 2019 championships. Throughout the day entertainment will be provided with music, stalls, tea and coffee etc, Duck race, and raffle, with a chance to win a boat trip.

So come on down to the Beck and enjoy a great fun day. Editors note: The Beverley Barge Presrevation Society is a registered charity based on Beverley Beck. We operate three historic vessels the 'Sun' 'Mermaid' and 'Syntan' which was formerly owned by Hodgson's Tannery in Beverley.

'Syntan' has been restored and converted into a museum. She is also a community resource and, visits a number of water based events during the year. The Society's 'Sun' and 'Mermaid' are used as trip boats on the Beck and River Hull. We work with people of all ages and abilities to educate and introduce them to the world of inland waterways in East Yorkshire. For further information at: syntanbarge.org.uk
